Re: Data gathering in support of district Aboriginal Education programs
In July 2014, the district renewed its achievement contract with the Ministry for the period 2014-2017. The contract identifies three inter-related and inter-dependent improvement goals, in an effort to push the boundaries of personalized, life-long learning:

  • greater competency in foundation skills;
  • successful transition from school to adult life;
  • and pursuit of Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement goals district-wide.

The latter is an agreement between the District and local First Nations, to ensure that the educational needs of Aboriginal students are met, and they receive enhanced educational opportunities, often by way of programs offered to all students.
The second agreement (2013-2018) has been in existence for nearly a year now. It contains three overlapping goal areas: The Individual, The Community, and Learning.
In the interest of gathering additional local data that can be considered along side Ministry data reports, the Advisory Council has prepared three online surveys, to be completed by staff, students in Grades 3 through 12, and parents.

Links to the staff, student, and parent surveys are provided below. The surveys should take only 2-3 minutes to complete, and they are open for responses until for Feb 28, 2015.

The surveys:
Parent Survey
Staff Survey
Gr 3-12 Student Survey

Thank you on behalf of your Aboriginal Education Advisory Council.

With Gratitude,

Shannon Johnston
