If your child is just starting to take the school bus, or if your normal arrangements have changed, it would be helpful to call the school or send a note for your child to make sure your child is clear on what bus to get in order to arrive home safely.  Please continue to be as clear as possible with your child about their afterschool plans. We would like to send a reminder to parents and students that our longstanding policy that afterschool arrangements must be made ahead of time (no “same day” playdates) is still in effect.  Bus Transportation Services continues to require a note that will be passed on to your driver (or their substitute driver that day) if your child is getting off at a stop that differs from their normal scheduled stop, otherwise your child will not be permitted to get off the bus. Staff, Teachers and Bus Drivers appreciate your cooperation and guidance to ensure your child’s safety.

Policy for bus riders in Kindergarten or Grade 1:

- Kindergarten and Grade 1 students must be met at their stop by a parent of guardian.

- It is recommended that Kindergarten and Grade 1 students have their phone number on a piece of paper/card in their backpack.

- If  that adult is not at the stop, the student will be kept on the bus and brought back to either Plant Services at 160 Rainbow Road at 4:10 pm for Bus 4 riders or in the front of Gulf Island Secondary School at 4:18 pm for Bus 5 riders. The safety of the students is foremost in the drivers' minds. Children will be warm, safe, and available for pick up at those locations.
