Dear Fernwood Families,

Today, the sun is shining, and the warm temperature meant that we could take our coats off and get outside.

This morning, we all met outside at a distance in our learning groups for our parade to show off our Crazy Hair and PJs 'Spirit Day'. It was so fun to cheer each other on and spend time together as a whole school for a moment.

Currently, the Garden Club with Mr. McPhee is turning over the soil in the final garden beds, having planted peas and potatoes and spending much of yesterday rototilling.  The recent garden bed upgrades from the TASK program at GISS has made all the difference.  They even hooked up the gutter to our water catchment system, so now we can do our part to conserve rainwater for summer watering needs!

As I look out of the windows of my office, I see many of Ms Hingston's students participating in an outdoor silent disco in the Acro-Yoga club by the outdoor classroom.

Mr. McPhee's students are eating lunch in the garden, Ms Jones' class has the parachute out in the gym, and the visiting storyteller has just left Ms Pyper's class after enthralling them with Norwegian Fairy Tales.

I see a long line of Ms Klare's students, who have just returned from visiting the farm, while Ms Bain's class is just getting ready to go.  Ms Meghan & Bridget's arbutus class is listening to a story on the stump circle, and I know that Ms Curtis and Ms Michaux's classes are going to spend some centre time outside this afternoon.

I am grateful to have been part of a school that has safely arrived at the end of our second term in a global pandemic!  I am also grateful to spend each and every day with our amazing staff and the beautiful children who you entrust in our care.  The staff and I will certainly miss all of them over Spring Break, but we will use the time to recover and recharge from what has been a very busy few weeks.

Enjoy the sunshine and some family time and know that we are wishing you all a very safe and happy Spring Break!

Sincerely,

Kelda and the Fernwood Staff
