Grand(m)others to Grandmothers Scrabble Event at Fernwood

Fernwood School will be taking part in a Scrabble Event -- a simplified word game - on Monday, April 7th.

This event is in support of the community fundraiser of the local Grand(m)others to Grandmothers group (G2G)

on Salt Spring Island - as it raises donations to support the work of the Steven Lewis Foundation (SLF).

Grassroots outreach of G2G in Canada such as annual Scrabble Games help raise funds to support grassroots

projects that address the needs of millions of orphans and grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa - in the wake of

the impact of the decades old pandemic of HIV/AIDS. Building awareness and compassion for this enormous

problem with Canadian schoolchildren is one of our goals.  The other is to empower our children with an opportunity

to be part of a real solution to a real problem. The fun and challenge of word games follows information

sessions about the work of the SLF. Everyone is encouraged to take part, and if possible bring a small donation -

most appreciated as a gesture of reaching out to help others.

Read more about the amazing work of the SLF on their website or peruse the SLF/G2G display at Fernwood.

Thanks for supporting your child to make a difference!  (Joyce Weir)
