Snow Information

Parents should listen to one of the following radio stations to hear announcements regarding bus service: CJSU 89.7 FM Duncan, CBC Radio 1 690 AM, and CBC Radio 1 Victoria 90.5 FM. We also notify parents by posting it on our webpage and by emailing out to our School News email distribution list when possible and also by "activating"  a "snow phone chain" if your class is participating in one.
* Notices are also often posted on the front page of the district website in all three scenarios: www.sd64.bc.ca

1) Buses running on main roads only

Schools are open as normal but the buses will be running on the main roads only for safety reasons.

Schedule:  http://sd64.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mainroads20130107.pdf

Bus 4 only runs along North End Road and Lower Ganges Road only.
Bus 5 only runs along North End Road and Vesuvius Road only.

2) Buses and/or water taxis not running, but schools open

Most students will likely not attend, but school is open. Please use your discretion to decide if it is safe to transport your child to school.

3) Schools closed

Only in the most extreme cases would the school actually be closed. In this situation, please check our webpage or the District 64 homepage AND announcements will again be made on the radio.

4) Schools closing in the middle of the day

On rare occasions, it starts to snow and become dangerous when school is already in session.  If this happens, we do our best to notify parents that the bus is leaving school early.  In this scenario please:

  • realize that road conditions change and you can pick up your child if your road is dangerous
  • the school is closing - staff are expected to go home because of dangerous road conditions
  • call the school or check your email to find out if school is closing early
  • let your child's teacher know what is expected - should they catch the bus or will you pick them up?
